McDOnalds in Britian

A quick aside: we were going through roundabout after roundabout today when we spotted those American golden arches.  And it was lunch time, so we decided to get a burger, like in the U.S.  What we found was a TRAFFIC JAM!  No place to park.  People were parking on the road for miles, trying to spot parking places that someone might be leaving.  We ended up out on the road.  But McDonalds is a hit all over, we guess.  Nowhere else did we see traffic jams for lunch!!!

  1. Sometimes you just need a US style hamburger. There was a restaurant near Cambs when I was there that was done in a "UFO motif" (don't ask). But if you needed a hamburger, this was the place.

And the British don't understand parking lots. They labour uneder the illusion that everyone walks or bikes to the place.

  2. I have never understood the draw of McDonalds. Of course, if I had to eat typical British food every day I'd probably flock to McDonalds, too.

  3. It is nice to know what to expect from lunch, hence the appeal of Mickey D's for me while on the thruway, but I KNOW I would not park a mile away and walk for their food.... unless the fries were fresh and piping hot. All bets are off where fries are involved. ;-)

  4. The McCafe business that started out in the last year or so here was going on in Spain at least a year before that. McD's are popular although some locals make a point to boycott. On the whole, Mickey D's is doing quite well, and we help out.☺
